Am upgrading from a nikon d-40 to 90 or 300s what lens would be good for boat ride pics with landscape/fishin?

they are going to extra healthful and do their interest, yet wo not meter. in case you have any older AF lenses, those wo not AF, the two. i could desire to assert besides, the Nikon F is a great digicam.

In your opinion, why has our political landscape become one of party politics as opposed to being an individual and doing what is right?

In a Democratic (or any, really) political system, unified numbers are power. That is the power to do right or wrong. And, when one side has power and you disagree with them on important issues, having your own party to do your own right (or wrong) is essential to achieving what you want to achieve

Are Democrats typically, generally more liberal today than they were 20 years ago or is the political landscape simply much more polarized than it was 20 years ago?

i think the whole country has shifted right. democrats now are where republicans used to be. republicans are somewhere back in the dark ages.

I like 18th century landscape paintings but I am a poor slave with no income to indulge my artistic needs...?

Yes,the idea seems ok...but i dont think it will look like the original if u are all creative and artistic, y dont u try reproducing these pieces...ull have a lot of fun too and paints dont cost that much..

How far from a road do I need to be to not hear the traffic?

This depends enormously on landscape, weather, and infrastructure.I grew up in The Netherlands several hundred meter from a motorway, but with good noise barriers, we heard almost nothing. My friend lives less than 100 metre from a noise-barriered motorway and it's nearly inaudible. Now I live several km from a motorway in England, without noise barriers. Depending on the weather, I either hear nothing at all or it's so annoying I can not stand being in my garden, and hear it even with the windows closed. I've been considering to buy a sound pressure level meter to compare my impression to something measurable and try to relate it to my circumstances. The quietest weather tends to be dense fog, when traffic is either crawling or stationary, both of which are sufficiently quiet several kms away.If there's a hill between you and the road, or if the road is underground, you will hear (nearly) nothing even very close. But if the road is in a valley and you are up on the slope, you might hear it many kms away. I've been 10 km from roads and still found some heavy powerful lorries going uphill disturbing, but that on a mostly open landscape with at most small sub-Arctic mountain birch forest type trees. In some countries there are interactive noise maps, such as this one for England. I found the value of this quite limited, as my personal experience is worse than this map claims for my area. It also depends on the road, of course. Some roads have traffic all night, others become completely quiet.Personally, my strategy if I am near a road, is to seek out a sound I find pleasant rather than annoying: specifically, a stream or river. Those may drown out the road sound such that I can pretend to be in the wilderness rather than right next to a road.

Which work would you say has had a bigger impact on the cultural landscape, the original Star Wars (1977) or (the book versions of) Lord of the Rings and why?

If you take away Lord of the Rings, you instantly also lose Dungeons & Dragons in all of its iterations. You still have wargamers, who push miniatures a designated distance over adorable little fake terrain, but you do not have roleplayers. No spinoff products, like the fairly hilarious Choose Your Own Adventure novels from the 1980s. No t-shirts. No attempts, by TSR or anyone else, to set roleplaying games in the far future, Wild West, or Lovecraftosphere. No Live-Action Roleplaying (LARP) groups, at least not the orc vs. elf kind. No Satanic Panic over the cultural impact in the seventies and eighties (even in E. T. the Extraterrestrial, the protagonist's older brother is playing D&D with his friends in an early scene, much expanded on in the novelization). No hilariously awful novel Mazes & Monsters, and the resulting movie, a breakthrough role for a young Tom Hanks. No Jack Chick tract "Dark Dungeons." No Stranger Things

Instructions for the Use of Solar Landscape Courtyard Lamps
Instructions for the Use of Solar Landscape Courtyard Lamps
Solar landscape courtyard lamp is the combination of landscape lamp and courtyard lamp. Its composition is mainly composed of solar cell module, lamp pole, support, special light source, lamp cap, battery box, ground cage and battery. With solar energy as energy, the solar light collected during the day is photoelectric converted through solar energy panel, and then the battery is used to supply power for the lighting of high-efficiency LED light source. In addition, it is characterized by stable and reliable work, environmental protection and energy saving, the layout of lamps can be moved at will, there is no need to pay for electricity, and there is no need to lay complex lines. After the solar landscape courtyard lamp is fully charged each time, it can continue to illuminate for 4-5 days, and the daily lighting time can reach 8-10 hours. All processes do not need manual operation. At the same time, due to the rich and diverse shapes of solar landscape courtyard lamps, they can be designed exquisitely and elegantly. The beautiful decoration of amusement parks, courtyards, parks and many public places is mainly applicable to the lighting and decoration of park roads, commercial and residential communities, parks, scenic spots and squares. In addition, the solar landscape courtyard lamp also has the following characteristics:1. The appearance design can be customized according to the customer's own requirements (within the scope of meeting national requirements and standards).2. Advanced time control and optical control technology can also be used.3. Colloidal battery or lead-acid hybrid battery can be used without maintenance.4. The height of lamp light source is generally 3.5-5m, and the color of lamp column surface can be determined according to the customer's requirements.5. Its current anti-theft function improves its security a lot.

How to Change the Outside Look of a Metal ShedConsult with the paint store for advice on suitable paints for your metal shed. Choose paint colors that suit your garden decor. Generally, browns and greens help the shed "fade" into the surrounding garden, shrubs and trees. Paint the shed the same color as your house to tie the two buildings together. Hide unsightly items such as firewood or a lumber pile behind the shed, or move it to another location. A common homeowner's dilemma is the metal shed in the back yard. It is a practical, utilitarian structure that allows you to store all the garden tools, the lawn mower and perhaps a bicycle or two. Unfortunately, a basic metal shed is just plain ugly. An industrious homeowner, however, can transform that ugly blotch in the landscape into a decorative element in the garden in just one weekend. With the addition of paint, planters, trellises, plants and decorative elements such as faux windows, new doors and solar lights, an ugly metal shed becomes a statement of garden decor ingenuity.6. i purchased used walkway type solar lights but they won't light. what should i do?Get new ones . They are so cheap7. you know those solar lights, the sun shines on them by day and they light by night.?The oceans are giant heat capacitors - they soak up heat during the summer and gradually radiate it away. That's why, in the Northern Hemisphere at least, the weather continues to get warmer after midsummer and is coldest just before Spring rather than at midwinter. All you need is a giant tank of water in your conservatory, that will do it. Or, if you focus the heat into a tank of water and let it boil then you could use the steam to make electricity and then store it in batteries until the winter.8. How long does it take for new solar lights to work?I bought my first set of stainless steel garden lights about 2 months ago.Fortunately for me it had instructions. The solar lights have to fully charged on the first day - about 8 hours of sun. Make sure you place them where they will get the maximum amount of sunlight. My solar lights have been on every night so far even on cloudy days (they do not light as long in the night on cloudy days as they do not get fully charged, but they do light). If you did all those things, then I think you need a refund or exchange on your lights. Good luck!.9. Survivalist Uses for Solar Landscape Lights
Here is an interesting thought that surely must have crossed many people's minds in the past. As I sit on my patio I watch the solar lights that surround it and firmly believe that every survivalist should have several of these solar powered landscape lights for use at their bug out retreat or their home in the event of an emergency. These little 21st Century wonders function from small LED which do not provide much light output but never the less it is enough so that you can safely see where your sidewalk is. Granted these units are not too good for heavy reading but they will provide you with light to function safely in the evening. They actually can serve several purposes. If placed along the perimeter of your retreat area they will adequately provide sufficient lighting for which you can monitor the activities around your compound. If you are into using night vision equipment then these solar powered lights can enhance all your additional equipment. The light power output is usually small enough that they would not readily be noticed outside your immediate area or for any long distances avoiding the possibility of alerting the less desirable elements during those crisis times. They are easily used indoors to provide sufficient light for safe movement in your retreat but once again not sufficient to attract undo attention. Imagine these lights outside during the day charging and retrieved for inside use at night. All you need to do is take them to your backyard in the morning and let them recharge for the following evening.Generally these lights operate small high efficient LED's which will last you from 8 to 10 hours on a single charge. That is more then enough to get you through the evening. Batteries used in these lights are usually the AA rechargeable. With a little experimentation on your part you may find that you can use these same units to operata small fan or even a cell phone charger. These patio lights are generally very inexpensive and are purchased in packs of four or more. Now is the time to start looking for the sales as they frequently go at discount prices near the end of the summer season. Family Dollar is a good place to locate them at very reasonable prices. You can usually find a package of 6 for less then $20 dollars. Yard sales and flea markets are another great place to find bargains on these useful accessories. An interested note here is that you may wish to store these lights with the understanding that they can be damaged by EMP. The Light Emitting Diodes that are used to provide the actual light pass current in only one direction. When these electronic components are exposed to sources of EMP they receive a surge of current which quickly overloads and burns out the LED's PN junction. In which case they should be stored within a metal trunk or metal garage which is properly grounded in order to survive any EMP situation.Copyright @ 2009 Joseph Parish

Outdoor Landscape Lighting - What Are My Options?
As a proud home or business owner you have many reasons to supply outdoor lighting around your property. By illuminating the exterior portion of your home or business you are sending a subtle signal to strangers that your property is occupied and secure. At the same time you, your family, and all those who are welcome can navigate outside of your home in a safe manner.Outdoor landscape lighting comes in many forms with numerous uses. Primarily, you have a choice in the type of lighting you select and in many cases you can use a combination of both. For a bright constant glow you may choose low-voltage electrical landscape lighting. Although these lights are brighter they also come with a cost as monthly electrical bills will be impacted by this style of lighting. Furthermore, installing an electrical landscape lighting system is more complicated, requires various components, and offers less flexibility when comparable outside solar garden lights. The low voltage systems also depend upon an external electrical source. No such complications exist with outdoor solar garden lights, the other primary style of landscape lighting for homeowners to consider. True, the intensity of a driveway solar light is not as bright as their low voltage counterpart, however cost of ownership, installation, and durability are superior to low-voltage electrical systems. Outdoor solar garden lights can be easily installed anywhere exposure to direct sunlight is available. Once a location is selected, solar garden lights also can be relocated with ease by simply removing the mount and reinserting into another location. In many cases driveway solar lights and other solar powered pathway lights are mounted onto a ground stake that's easily tapped into the ground. The driveway solar light fixture is then mounted on top of the stake and secured with a twist or snapping mechanism. Other outdoor solar lights can be mounted directly on top of the ground along curbing, on steps and stairs, and on other solid structures such as fences or posts. Typically, all mounting hardware for these various applications are included with the light fixture.Low voltage systems reduce the electrical current from 120 volts to 12 volts by utilizing a transformer. Obviously this system requires external electrical access and the need to dig a trench about 3 or 4 inches deep to bury the electrical cable mounted to the lights and connecting to the transformer. The 12-volt system costs also must include not only the light fixtures but also the transformer and electrical cable. In addition to longer installation periods for this system, a homeowner also must consider other issues like potential voltage drops for lights installed furthest from the transmitter. There's less flexibility with electrical systems as the lights usually need to be installed in line allowing for the connection of the power cable between lights.Certainly low voltage systems do emit a consistent light throughout the night whereas solar powered outdoor landscape lights reduce in intensity throughout the night and are least bright as the sun rises. However, a homeowner needs to consider all options before installing a lighting system. Solar lights offer a softer glow but they continue to be a very suitable outdoor lighting option. When considering ease of installation, overall cost of ownership, environmental benefits, and flexibility to the homeowner, solar landscape lighting offers many significant advantages.

Low Voltage, High Impact Landscape Lighting | Fox News
After more than one hundred thirty years since the invention of the light bulb landscape designers and homeowners alike have figured out that using a bunch of little accent lights strategically placed around the house is more aesthetically pleasing than one huge light on the porch. That is, unless you like your home lit up like a used car lot. When smaller, smarter lights are placed along paths, up steps, and in landscaping beds it adds a beautiful ambiance that gets "wow your house looks great" comments from neighbors and passers-by. Adding low voltage and solar lighting is easy and cost effective, and with so many light fixture styles available you can compliment the architecture of any house without compromising your budget.Whether or not it's a job you can tackle is the question. Basic solar lighting is so easy a five-year old can do it. Low voltage electric lighting is a little more difficult, but manageable by just about anyone.Solar lights come individually for as little as $3.50 or in multi-packs. Installation is easy because these lights come with stakes attached and you simply stick them in the ground wherever you desire. They have no wires that need to be connected to anything. If you have fencing or railings around your property you can find post caps with solar lights. All you need to do is remove the old cap and place the new one on securing it with a screw or two.Low voltage landscape lights have more wattage and provide more illumination than the solar lights. This is great for 'up lighting' the house and using spot lights for dramatic effect. They also increase the safety and security of your property. These lights can be purchased for as little as thirty bucks. The kits are the easiest way to go if you're a novice diy'er because all the parts and pieces are included with an instruction booklet. If you choose to purchase the pieces individually you'll need to do a bit more planning. The components of a low voltage lighting kit are the lights, the wire to connect the lights, and a power pack (also known as a transformer) to plug them in. You provide the shovel and sweat equity. The only thing you need to have before installation is an exterior outlet that is GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) protected. These plugs 'trip' or shut off automatically if any abnormalities are detected to prevent shocks and fires. Township building codes around the country require GFCI protection for most outside receptacles. They are similar to regular outlets, except with "test" and "reset" buttons. You also find these in bathrooms and kitchens. If you have one, you're good to go. If not, have an electrician put one in for you.Start the lighting installation by walking around the property, in the evening, getting a feel for the areas you want to accent. Make a sketch of your property and note where you'd like each lighting element placed. If you're using a kit, you're limited to how many lights come in that kit. Either way, keep the lights out of the path of the lawn mower or weed-whacker because there is nothing worse than working around these lights every time you work on the yard.If you're buying pieces individually, you need to decide the size of the power pack you'll need, the length of wire, and how many lights you'll want. The size of the power pack depends on how many lights and how much electricity they will use. The mathematical formula is simple: add up the number of watts each light uses and this total will tell you how big the power pack should be. For example, 10 lights using 11 watts each equal 110 watts. The power packs usually come in a variety of sizes such as 120, 200, 300 watts. In this example you would choose the 120 watt power pack. Having a larger capacity power pack gives you the ability to expand and add lights later, but don't let the total watts needed be less than one third the capacity of the power pack. The length of wire you'll need is based on your layout. Measure the distance from the outlet to the first light, and then to each individual light just like a string of holiday lights. The type of wire you'll need is low voltage 12 or 16 gauge and is made for this purpose. Most good stores have the landscape lighting parts in one large section and you can find everything you need in that one place.Once you have all of your pieces, you begin by mounting the power pack to the house next to the outlet. It comes with a simple mounting bracket and screws. Then place your lights in their desired location.String the wire from the power pack to each of the lights, leaving a little extra length for future adjustment. It will be buried later so don't worry about it being seen. Be careful not to cross over paths or driveways.Connecting the lights to the wire is done with a clip that comes with each light. One half of the clip will go on each side of the wire and it snaps together making the electrical connection. Some clips have a screw to tighten them down. It's that easy. No electrical engineering is necessary. The method for attaching the wire to the power pack depends on the brand you buy. In some cases you'll need to strip away an inch of the wire insulation or sheathing to expose the metal wire inside. The wire is then looped around a screw on the transformer and tightened down.Once everything is connected, plug the power pack into the GFCI protected outlet and check that all the lights are on. Wait until dark so you can see your work in all its glory and to be sure you're happy with the layout. The final step is to hide the wires. Dig a small trench of about five inches deep and two wide, and bury the wire in the trench. Return the ground to its natural state so it's not noticeable. If you want to add dramatic effect to the exterior of your home solar and low voltage lighting are good options that are affordable and easy to do. This project can be done in one weekend and the results get you compliments for many years to come.Jason Gurskis is a licensed home improvement contractor based in Mystic Island, New Jersey dedicated to making homes more comfortable, durable, and energy efficient.

These lights are convenient and practical additions that will make everything from using a home security cam to unlocking your door at night a little bit easier. They can also help to keep the critters away from your prized tomatoes. A flood light is designed to flood an area with light. It's very straightforward. Flood lights are most important for outdoor applications. Inside, you have your walls, mirrors, and surfaces of your furniture to help bounce light around to fill the space. One bulb can take you a long way in a small room. Outside, you do not have that luxury. It's a vast expanse, and without a well defined space to contain a light, it sort of leaks out everywhere. A normal light outside wo not go very far. Since a flood light is designed to beam a high concentration of light directly out into a wide area, they will do a better job at illuminating a vast expanse. Flood lights are used to illuminate outdoor concerts and sporting events at night. These flood lights are a lot more powerful than the kind you would need to illuminate your home, since your back porch is substantially smaller than a football stadium. Flood lights for home use are compact, easy to use and install, and relatively inexpensive. Boundery's LumiGuard Pro is an ultra-bright 270 degree motion sensing floodlight. It's the perfect one size fits all solution for some security and safe illumination. It easily installs on your front porch or by your back door, giving you enough light to safely enter and exit without tripping over the doormat or trying every key on the ring. The LumiGuard Pro XL was designed with home security in mind. Our biggest and brightest floodlight can be used to illuminate very large areas, making it helpful for homeowners with a lot of property. It's designed to detect motion from up to 25 feet away, neutralizing threats the moment they approach. The Original LumiGuard is a compact and powerful solar floodlight that installs in minutes. It's the perfect replacement for battery powered LED flood lights, providing substantially more life without the hassle and waste of constantly replacing batteries. Why Do I Need a Flood Light? There are a lot of excellent reasons to add a few flood lights to the front and back of your house. You can position them wherever you need them to make your life a little easier at night. After work, you stop off to have dinner with a friend and run some errands. You make a last minute trip to the grocery store so you can meal prep some healthy meals for the upcoming week. Before you know it, you are getting home at 8 PM. The porch light is not on. You now have the troublesome task of figuring out how to get your groceries to the door that you cannot see to unlock. It's a huge pain, and you are kicking yourself for forgetting to leave a light on. A motion activated flood light solves that problem. As you approach the flood light, it will turn on. You can hold your groceries in one hand and unlock the door with the other because it's easy to see what you are doing. Need to run back out to the car to grab that 12 pack of seltzer? The light will kick back on. If you are having people over for a night time gathering, you probably have a well lit gazebo or porch area. But what happens when someone needs to walk to their car or around the house? They are probably unfamiliar with where they are going, and you do not want them to trip and fall. Solar flood lights and Boundery's Solar LED Stair Lights can make it safe for people wandering around in the dark. People with bad intentions do not want to be spotted. If anyone were casing your house to vandalize or burglarize it, they certainly do not want to do so with a bright spotlight shining directly at them. Mischievous teenagers are programmed to run the moment a light kicks on. It will give them the sense that someone saw them, or that someone could easily see them if they noticed the light kicked on and looked out the window. Strategically placing motion sensor lights near security cameras will help them capture clearer footage. If your camera's night vision leaves much to be desired, keep it in its normal mode and back it up with some solar flood lights. If you live in a quiet area or have a small patch of woods behind your home, you probably love the view. What you do not love is the curious deer and raccoons that want to see what kinds of plants are growing on your property. Rabbits are just as interested in finding snacks at dusk as they are at dawn. If you are growing fragrant herbs, fruits, or vegetables in your backyard, put up a solar light. Any curious animals looking to steal a bite will be scared off when the light kicks on. Motion sensor lights work by detecting infrared waves. People, animals, and cars emit heat. This heat energy can be seen by a motion detector light, especially when it's moving. The sensor picks up on the heat signature that passes before it and, in response, turns on the light. Motion sensing lights can sometimes be triggered by things like foliage aggressively blowing in the wind. If this is a dealbreaker for you, just trim the bushes. You can also adjust the placement of your lights to avoid pointing them directly at greenery. Why Are Solar Lights Better Than Electric Lights? Solar lights are better than electric lights for countless reasons. The most obvious reason is that they do not ever cost you anything to run. They use the light from the sun to charge an internal battery. When the sun goes down, solar flood lights know that it's dark and will automatically begin to work. You never have to remember to plug them in, turn them on, or recharge them. Since they do not require an active source of electricity, you can place them anywhere. You do not need to run wires or extension cords or create hazards to power your solar lights. Anyone can install them with simple instructions and basic tools. How Many Solar Flood Lights Do I Need? The amount of solar flood lights you need depends on what you are trying to achieve. You may only want two: one for the front door, and one for the back door. If you tend to take the trash out at night, it may help to strategically place one by the cans. If you are using them for home security, you will want them near every entrance and exit of your home. You might want to place them near your security cameras or, as a precaution, near any areas of your home that get particularly dark at night. If you entertain on your property, you might want to place them in a way that they will illuminate the way to the nearest entrance of your home. It's polite to help people find the bathroom during a bonfire or late night whiskey tasting. Solar flood lights can be affixed to your exterior walls with screws. They have a place for those screws to go in the form of a built-in mount. It's usually as simple as using the right drill with the right bit to prepare the wall and affixing the light. It is not much different from hanging a mirror or a picture frame. Your solar flood light will come with detailed instructions. Every home can do with a few solar powered LED flood lights. They are a one-time investment for a lifetime of convenience, safety, and peace of mind. It's liberating not to worry about turning the lights off and on when you need them, and it's even better when the light wo not add a single penny to your electric bill. Solar powered LED lights are ready to go right out of the box, and even the laziest DIYer can have them up and ready in time to eat a sandwich and take a nap. It's such a simple fix for a common problem that now you know how easy it is, we are not sure how you will want to go without it!
AUSHEN Solar Garden Lights Color Waterproof Landscape Pathway Walkway Lights Stainless Steel LED Out
I purchased these in late fall when the weather was cold, but still sunny much of the time. These worked fine the first week or so until the skies became grey most days. (By "work," I mean that they produced a soft glow for about a 3 foot radius, which is not bad for lights that are low to the ground.) Unfortunately they have not worked since we stopped having direct sunlight in early December. I gave them three stars because they did work when they have plenty of sun, but are definitely not a good fit if you are looking for something solar to supplement Christmas lights. I look forward to seeing if they bounce back in spring - although colored lights are more of a holiday thing so I am not sure if I will use them then.• You May Also Want to KnowWhat does it mean when christmas lights have 3 way flashing?Im looking into purchasing some new christmas lights this year. I have found some twinkling icicle lights that say they have 3-way flashing. Does that mean that an individual bulb doesnt twinkle like the ones I have seen before, but rather a whole strand or section of strands flashes? I think it means you have the option of the lights all staying on, the lights flashing on and off or the lights "twinkling". Edit: Actually, I think the first option would be chasing lights. Chasing, flash on/flash off of the whole string and random twinkling. All good points! But then it also says from left to right? & It doesnt say anything about the lights having a control for those functions like other lights that have those features do? I thought it meant what said. I do not know how to explain the left to right thing. Do you have a link for that? Or you have very kinky Christmas lights. does it not mean they can flash 3 different ways: 1 flash on and off, 2 run from left to right in a chasing effect 3 run up and down the icicle Have a look on this website it has video clips of how different lights work they may help you Or they could be the tricolor LEDs since if you put current through them one way they are green. If you put it through the opposite way they are red and if you switch them really fast, haha really really fast, it makes an orange-ish color. Normally Christmas lights come with different flashing sections, the common selection are 1) always on 2) slow 1-2second flashes an 3) faster How long can you leave Christmas lights on for?Holiday lights are OK to go up the day after Thanksgiving. You can take them down anytime after New Year's Day, but before January 6th—that's Three Kings Day and the last of the 12 days of Christmas. Considering this, is it dangerous to leave Christmas lights on? Christmas tree lights should not be left on for prolonged periods of time or overnight. Even LED lights can overheat, and with a combination of a dry Christmas tree, could cause a fire. Make it a habit to turn off your Christmas lights every time you leave the house or go to bed at night. Also Know, can outdoor Christmas lights stay on all night? - you can not leave Christmas lights on when it rains or they will spark and your house will burn down. - You can not leave them plugged in overnight or else they will spark and burn your house down. The outlets outside are not reliable, and of a surge protector is not used, the lights will spark and burn your house down. People also ask, how much does it cost to leave Christmas lights on all night? You probably have at least 10 strands decorating your house and tree. Let's look at the electric cost to plug in 10 strands for a two month period (10-hours per day): LEDs: $20.70. Incandescent Lights: $69.00. You can leave your Christmas lights on all night and they will not get hot enough to start a fire. In fact, you can leave your Christmas lights on 24/7 throughout the entire holiday season, and they still will never get hot enough to cause a fire. How Do Blinking Lights Work? | HomesteadyAs current flows through the light bulb, it traverses a special section of wire known as a filament; the filament is resistant to electrical flow, and the resistance to the electrical current causes it to both glow and produce heat. Depending on the type of light and its application, the flow of electricity may be controlled with an electrical switch capable of breaking the circuit to interrupt the flow of electricity; when the circuit is broken and electricity stops, the light bulb no longer illuminates. To make lights blink, manufacturers use a special type of filament known as a bimetallic strip. Like normal filaments, bimetallic strips are resistant to electricity and glow as electricity passes through them. As the strips heat up, however, they tend to bend, breaking the electrical circuit and causing the light to extinguish. After the strip breaks the circuit and stops the flow of electricity, it quickly cools down and springs back into its original shape, once again completing the flow of electricity. This on and off action of the light gives it a blinking effect, and the speed of the flashing can be adjusted through the use of different types of bimetallic strips. The same bimetallic strips that cause a single light bulb to flash on and off can also be used to control a series of lights. One of the most easily recognizable applications of bimetallic strips is in a string of lights used around the holiday season, sometimes referred to as "Christmas lights." In these lights, a special bulb with a bimetallic strip breaks the flow of electricity not only to itself, but to the entire string of lights; as the strip cools, the circuit is restored and the lights re-illuminate. This same application takes place in other blinking or flashing lights, where a special device known as a "relay" contains a bimetallic strip; when the relay heats up and the strip bends, the light—which may be an automotive light, or even a strobe on an airplane—flashes off, then back on.PLS HELP, I NEED ANSWERS ASAP?You are probably not from the USA? Well anyway, Christmas is the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. I could go into that whole thing, but I guess you are focused more on the ways we celebrate and not why. First off, some people decorate their houses with Christmas lights. You could drive around anywhere and guaranteed, you would see plenty of “lit up“ houses. Some people bake cookies before Christmas. And it would not be strange to have carolers knock up at your house and sing you a song. There is, of course, the Christmas tree. People go out and buy an evergreen tree and decorate it with bulbs and lights and sometimes the trees are topped with a star. On Christmas eve, I go to church and then come home and sit by the tree and we read “Twas the Night Before Christmas“ (not customary, just something we do) and then we go to bed before “Santa Clause“ (St. Nick) brings the presents. Santa is thought to come down the fireplace, where he leaves the presents under the tree, eats the cookies and milk that are left for him to snack on, and exits the same way he came in. Christmas Day, we open presents and go to a family dinner. I hope I covered everything. What parts of the Christmas holiday do you like most, and least? The best part of Christmas I like the most is the time when my family and I gather together to hang Christmas lights and decorations in order for our house to look as lovely and comfortable to all our special guest during the Christmas day.The least part I like is the time when we need to remove the decorations and put the house back the way it used to beCan you guys list all the good10: John and Yoko/Plastic Ono Band - Happy Xmas (War Is Over) (1972) John Lennon's best days were mostly behind him by 1972, but he still managed to rustle up a classic melody now and then. Even if the anti-war sentiment and kids chorus are a little cloying, this is still a great festive song for all faiths. Hare Rama indeed. 9: Dean Martin - Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! (1959) Because few songs can match this for conjuring up feelings of warmth on a cold winter evening, of the excitement of Christmas lights, and curling up in front of a fire with a loved one. Bliss. 8: Wham! - Last Christmas (1984) George Michael is said to have written this song upstairs at his parents' house while Andrew Ridgeley was downstairs watching Match Of The Day. Last Christmas still stands up as one of the great festive heartbreakers, though it was held off the top spot by the all-conquering Band Aid. Complete with a video featuring great hair and chunky knitwear, it was a double a-side with Everything She Wants - not a bad song either. 7: Ding Dong Merrily On High (trad) Our favourite carol, if only for the descending 'Gloria' stretching over 33 syllables. Wonderful stuff. 6: I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus (1952) Its jaunty melody may inspire festive feelings, but we know what this song is really about. Written by Englishman Tommie Connor, it's a dark tale of infidelity in which the final verse runs: “I saw Mommy tickle Santa Claus, underneath his beard so snowy white. Oh, what a laugh it would have been, if Daddy had only seen, Mommy kissing Santa Claus last night.“ We are sure Daddy would have thought so, yes. 5: The Twelve Days Of Christmas (trad) We all know that Christmas is a feast of excess. But consider the poor protagonist of this song, whose hapless lover on one day alone gave her the following: 12 leaping lords, 11 dancing women, 10 pipers, nine drummers, eight milk maids, seven swans, six geese and their eggs, five gold rings, four noisy birds, three French hens, two turtle doves, a partridge AND a bloomin' pear tree. Who on earth gives a tree for Christmas? And that's not forgetting the dozens of gifts from all the previous days. At least the gold rings would make a good settlement if she filed for divorce in the new year. 4 and 3: Wizzard - I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday and Slade - Merry Xmas Everybody (both 1973) Clearly 1973 was a zenith for Christmas songs, thanks to glam rock and an unwillingness to believe that mutton chop sideburns and mirrored top hats might possibly look ridiculous. Wizzard's classic failed to reach number one, but still keeps Roy Wood in beard-trimming kits to this day. 2: The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale Of New York (1987) When this was released in 1987, who would have thought that Shane MacGowan would still be going strong today, while Kirsty MacColl has sadly departed for the great gig in the sky? Produced by Elvis Costello, this classic is one of the few festive songs that do not warrant an Asbo to be slapped on the creators. Ridiculously, it only got to number two in the singles chart, as it does here. 1: Darlene Love - (Christmas) Baby Please Come Home (1963) The highlight, by some distance, of Phil Spector's epochal album A Christmas Gift For You, this festive magnum opus boasted Darlene Love's impassioned pleas to an absent lover, chiming bells, honking saxes and the legendary wall of sound, and all in less than three minutes. It's regretfully overlooked by festive broadcasters. U2 covered it in 1987, badly, but do not let that put you off - this is how all Christmas songs should sound. And in the words of Wales' very own Shakin' Stevens, merry Christmas everyone!
