Aside from the usual festive gatherings, the USJ 3/4 Rukun Tetangga (RT) took a step further to foster ties among residents by organising trips to other states.
RT chairman Tan Yeng Yap, who is also a Subang Jaya Municipal Council Zone 3 JKP member, said they organised one-day excursions to Sekinchan and Ipoh last year.
"We received positive feedback and the residents said they enjoyed the trips.
"Hence, we are planning to have two overnight trips this year, one to Melaka and another to Taiping and Penang," he said.
The RT had also organised activities such as self-defence training, bowling tournaments, flea market and meet-ups with the police.
At last year's "Remembering our Elderly" programme, senior citizens were given wristbands containing their contact information in case they went missing and anyone who found them can contact their family.
"We first gathered the number of senior citizens in USJ 3/4 and two months later we prepared the wristbands for them," he said.
The RT patrol team has more than 30 participants who walk or cycle around the neighbourhood.
"We also go from house to house to check in with residents, which is a good way to get to know each other better," he said.
The RT started its community gardening along Jalan USJ 3/4P three years ago.
Among the environmentally- friendly features at the garden are solar lights and a rain harvesting system.
"We have planted many fruits such as pomelo and durian," he said.
Members keep in touch via WhatsApp groups. "We have one purely for resident matters and another, named the "Kopitiam Talk" to talk about everything under the sun," Tan said.
