The solar lights have a photocell which turns them off during the daylight so the battery will charge. When the photocell detects the electric lights it thinks it's daylight and shuts down. The photocell must be located somewhere other then on the panel.
1. Can you replace the solar panels and charger in a solar system with a car alternator D/C electric motor?
Not sure why you would want to do this. But if you were to replace it, how would you power the D/C electric motor? The whole idea is to charge the batteries (if you opt for a battery based system), using the free source of energy, which is sunlight. You can use all sort sof gimmicks and hacks in between, but the end result has to be looked at matching the voltages/currents and efficiency (you want to have minimal loss in your system). Can you replace the solar panels and charger in a solar system with a car alternator D/C electric motor? Can you replace the solar panels and charger in a solar system, with a car alternator D/C electric motor?.
2. Does our solar system have a name?
Q: Does our solar system have a name? Does our moon have a name? Does our sun have a name? A: No. No. No. Sorry. They should. But they do not . At least not in English. There are, of course, many words used to refer to the Sun and the Moon in other languages. "Sol" and "Luna" are often thought of as proper names but they are really Latin, not English. So far there has not been a need for anything more. Maybe when we start living on other places besides the Earth....
3. Solar panels to heat pool?
well one 15 foot Panel will heat up to 10,000 gallons so i would imagine 7 of them depending on there size also it helps if you put them on your roof. also there is natural gas and propane heaters that work as good and that not that expensive to run as long as you keep the solar cover on it over night i have one too they are really easy to install then solar panels
4. Modeling incoming solar radiation
I studied physics in the old days but then had a career in engineering. I think it important to have experimental data to correlate with formulae and hypothesis. Perhaps astronomers studying solar radiation have data over several frequency ranges, times of year, latitudes etc. I think also interesting to know the amount of polarisation of the radiation according to the distance traversed, and its angle, through the atmosphere. IR reflective mirrors could redirect incident radiation vertically so that it would be lost to space with a minimum absorption and reflection by the atmosphere
5. How do solar FARMS convert solar energy into electrical energy?
There are several ways to use the sun's power to generate electricity. One of the most promising is called concentrating solar power. This involves using mirrors to reflect and focus the sun's rays, providing heat, which in turn helps power a generator. Another is photovoltaic panels, such as the displays on the rooftops of homes and office buildings
6. How much power is consumed by a illuminating switch light in the off position? I wired a off-grid solar cabin.?
Do not have an exact number, I would guess at 20mA at 60 volts (half wave to drive a LED) or about 1 watt. I would use non-lighted switches, unless you already have them installed. .
7. anyone have a solar home?
Things have changed a bit since Chuck did his study, but for most installations photovoltaic solar has a very slow payback. For example, my system cost about $50,000 six years ago. It generates an average of about 20 kWh per day. At 12.6 cents per KWh, it saves me about $75 per month. It does a bit more for me, though. I live alone and am able to put up with heating just one room in the house, with electric heaters. If I did not have the solar system, I would have to heat with gas, and could not heat just the one room. Gas prices have skyrocketed, so I would have that additional expense. I am considering installing a geothermal heat pump system so when I sell the house in a few years it will look very attractive to prospective buyers. The combination of PV and the heat pump should bring down the utility bills to a very low figure.
