Solar-powered Lights Add Accent, Security Outdoors - La

Question: I need outdoor accent and security lights, but I do not want to run any wiring because of walkways and damage to my gardens. Have solar yard lights improved to the point where they are usable?

Answer: Solar-powered lights are a perfect match with your needs. With no wiring, you will not have to tear up your landscaping. Trying to get even a low-voltage wire under or around walkways can be a hassle.

Many styles of the new solar-powered accent and security lights have gone contemporary. For versatility, select ones that can be mounted either on a post or against a wall. With advances in solar cell technology, the smaller solar cells are better integrated into the design and hidden.

If you've tried older solar lights and were perhaps dissatisfied, you will be surprised at the light output, styles and features of the new ones. The old dim incandescent bulbs have been replaced with high-tech bright LEDs (light-emitting diode), fluorescent and halogen bulbs.

Although not for your garden, the newest designs are solar-powered street number lights. I use a solar mailbox with my lighted street number on the side. There are also separate street number models with 4-inch numerals.

These not only ensure that the pizza delivery person finds your house before the pizza gets cold, but it enhances security. If you ever make a 911 call, the life squad or fire department can find your house immediately. Finding the house quickly can make a difference between life and death.

Solar-powered lights that use LED bulbs provide the most efficient and most hours of light at night. After a sunny day, eight to 10 hours of light is possible the following night. LEDs are most effective for accent lighting and marking pathways. You would not be able to read by one.

The brightest solar-powered lights use fluorescent bulbs. These actually produce some usable light. They use four- or five-watt bulbs. This may not sound like much, but at night it is quite bright. The fluorescent bulbs, such as LEDs, last a very long time.

For combination security and landscaping lighting, select an LED/halogen model. At dusk, the electric eye automatically switches on an accent amber LED. When motion is detected within 20 feet, a bright halogen bulb comes on for three minutes to scare away unwanted guests.

Security-only very bright solar lights are also effective. These typically use small remote solar panels so that the light itself can be located in a shady area, such as under a roof overhang. Solar flashlights and bright lanterns with emergency flashers are great for camping or in your car.

Replace Microwave Rather Than Repair Q: I have an older microwave oven and it has started getting noisier lately. It sounds like a fan or motor. Should I have the microwave repaired or just buy a new one? This one still works.

A: What you are probably hearing in an older microwave (I still have a 25-year-old one in my office) is a rotating device in the top of the oven. It is used to distribute the microwave energy more evenly inside.

You are probably better off just buying a new one. The prices have dropped so much that it would most likely cost more to repair the old one. The newer one, although more lightweight, will have more power and features.

Cheap units can under perform and cost you more in the long run. To help you avoid making a poor choice, we put together this solar spotlight review. For those in a hurry, here are the units we looked at: The field of solar spotlights available to consumers continues to grow. To help you find the right ones for your situation, we went over the top units on the market. We compared features and analyzed owner feedback to help weed out the poor performers. From that research we came up with these picks for the best outdoor solar powered spotlights: These solar landscape spotlights come in a four pack of completely adjustable LED lights with a total of 600 lumens. The included solar powered 18650 rechargeable lithium ion batteries allow for a long-lasting solar charge. These fashionable and practical solar spotlights have 2 brightness modes: Low Light produces 12 hours of use and High Light allows for 6 hours of light output to accommodate all your lighting needs. These solar landscape spotlights ensure automatic detection of brightness and motion, automatically changing from energy storage mode to lighting mode in an instant. They are very durable and are made of high-impact ABS plastic. They boast a unique IP67 waterproof design that can withstand all types of weather and are heat resistant. They are easy to assemble, and you can install them in the ground or wall mount with the included hardware. A repeat customer said all you have to do is just open the box, push in the stake, set the light mode to high or low, tighten or loosen the knob to adjust the angle, plant and enjoy. The 120-degree lighting angle and 90-degree adjustable solar panel angle allows you to adapt the lighting for your needs and modify the position of the solar panel for maximum coverage and light output. The streamlined one-piece design also makes it a cinch to mount to any surface. Just make sure to follow the directions included in the packaging and charge before using. One user noted that the solar landscape spotlights can turn on and off when pulling in the driveway at night with headlights on, but this was to be expected and was only a minor inconvenience. One customer stated these lights must be placed in direct sunlight and may not be as bright if they are not able to charge properly. Another concern is that these cannot be pointed downward because they do not bend beyond a horizontal position, so make sure to keep this in mind during placement as it can affect their performance. This four pack of solar lights make great waterproof outdoor landscape lighting or can be used as spotlight wall lights. They have an auto on and off feature that instinctively detects changes in the environment and switches on and off as needed. They feature a high conversion rate, with 200 lumens output by four super-bright LEDs that are strongly sealed and omit white light. The solar panel and light are independently adjustable - with the light head being adjustable to 90 degrees. The 2200mAh lithium-ion rechargeable 18650 batteries are included for fast charging. There is a separate, fully adjustable light and panel with two lighting modes: Low for 8 to 12 hours of light production and High for light lasting 4 to 6 hours. Many users stated that the button is sealed really well, and the plastic ABS housing makes them waterproof and heatproof to withstand any weather conditions. You can stake these solar powered spotlights into the ground or mount them to any exterior or interior surface with the included hardware. This upgraded version has a lengthened stick to insert deeper in the ground for greater stability during the highest of winds or harshest of environments, enhanced brightness, and the solar panel and battery capacity have been enlarged. They look great in daylight and super bright at night, and customers rave about their simple assembly and easy, no-hassle installation. As with many solar spotlights, working time for this model is weather sensitive. One user warns that the switch must be turned on upon initial setup before use and another that the solar spotlights are a bit bulky. There is limited adjustability because of the non-pivoting solar panel, so positioning matters. One reviewer advises to move them around until you get the look you want. These solar outdoor lights come in a two pack and have an upgraded solar panel measuring a whopping 15.3 square inches. There are three lighting modes: Security with a motion sensor that can detect up to 26 feet within a wide 120-degree angle, Permanent On, and Smart Brightness Control. The third setting is a permanent light on in dark conditions, then it gets brighter for 15 seconds when motion is detected so it wo not bother your neighbors, and if motion continues it stays on. These features also help to conserve battery time, making the light emitted last longer. The included 2200mAh lithium ion 18650 solar rechargeable batteries power PET laminated solar panels and premium LED lights. A customer stated that the solar outdoor lights can last about 6 hours in the summer and 3 hours in the winter after an average day of charging, which can be more on full-sun days. The IP65 technology makes these sealed solar outdoor lights waterproof and heatproof to protect the whole device from the elements. Many customers liked that they can be attached anywhere. One gentleman says you can tie it to a fence, fasten them to a tree, or attach them to a deck or post. They come with sheetrock anchors and screws for easy installation in a closet or a back entrance, just follow the easy instructions for installation and placement to receive maximum sunlight. Also, a buyer cautions that the switch located on the back of the device can be inconvenient, so just make sure to choose the setting you want before permanently mounting. One customer was concerned that the lights can often go out due to cars or pedestrians with flashlights passing by them and there is no adjustment you can make on the device itself to rectify this issue. Otherwise, they were very satisfied with their purchase. Another individual states that the solar panel is always at an angle and cannot be faced straight up. Also, these lights may require additional hardware to install that is not included, like galvanized steel screws to protect from rusting. The four included outdoor solar spotlights feature 200 lumens LED lights that omit a warm white light. The light is always on, but there are two modes: Low and High. Light lasts for 6 to 10 hours after a full charge of the included lithium ion batteries. There is a dusk-to-dawn sensor, which receives environmental feedback to turn the lights off and on in times of low or high light coverage. The fully adjustable light and solar panel allow for maximum coverage and charging ability. The light angle can adjust up to 180 degrees, and the solar panel angle adjusts up to 90 degrees for optimum sun exposure. One customer was surprised how easy setup was, because you can quickly stick them in the ground using the included sturdy posts or wall mount in a few minutes with the included hardware. These outdoor solar spotlights are water resistant, heat resistant, and frost resistant. So, they are safe to use during rainstorms, snowstorms, or extreme heat and humidity, making them an ideal option for all climates. One reviewer mentioned to make sure to turn the manual on and off switch located on the back of the solar panel to the on position before installing and remarked that their lights stay lit for up to 8 to 10 hours on a normal day's charge. Another buyer remarked that the plastic used is not high quality and the lights could require additional silicone caulking to be truly waterproof. These 2-in-1 adjustable solar spotlights emit a warm welcoming light with four LEDs producing a total of 200 lumens. They come in a two-pack and have an automatic on/off sensor that will turn the lights on and off depending on the amount of light it is exposed to. The lights can be wall mounted with the included hardware or staked into the ground. A customer commented that setup was very easy - just attach the included stem to the light and insert it into the ground where you want it. After some simple repositioning, they were casting light on the areas they wanted. They are made of waterproof and heatproof ABS material to tackle any weather Mother Nature can throw at them. These solar spotlights are adjustable up to 180 degrees for the light and solar panel. Both the light and solar panel have their own easy to set vertical angle adjustments. The 2200mAh lithium-ion battery can function 6 to 9 hours after a full solar charge. There are two brightness modes: Low and High for strong and powerful bright focus, and a large solar panel for prime charging. One reviewer suggests for best results, these lights should be charged for 8 hours and must be installed in an area that receives full sunlight every day, otherwise, the battery will not fully charge and this will reduce the amount of illumination produced. Another customer voiced concern that the lights produce more of a spotlight effect, that the light path is a bit narrow and not a floodlight pattern as they would prefer. Otherwise, these solar spotlights met their needs and exceeded their expectations. Outdoor Solar spotlights typically have three main parts: a set of lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, a light housing using LED or another high quality and high output lighting source, and a solar panel to catch the sun's rays. During daylight hours, the solar panels capture the sun's energy and then stores it in the lithium-ion batteries. During the evening or when it is dark, the rechargeable batteries power the spotlights. The amount, duration, and quality of light they emit depend upon the amount of charge they can hold and the amount of sunlight they are able to be exposed to. For this reason, it is extremely important to place the outdoor solar spotlights in an area that receives maximum exposure to sunlight for optimal light production. The solar panel may be attached directly to the top of the light housing or it can be attached to the back of the light and protrude upwards and away from the lighting shroud. They come in all shapes and sizes, from spherical to rectangular and small to large for a variety of applications. Oftentimes, solar-powered spotlights can be used indoors or outdoors. Many models come equipped to be installed in the ground using a stake or pole and can also be used indoors or on the sides of buildings or other structures by mounting on a wall or other surface using screws. They also happen to use technology that makes them usable in any weather situation, from the desert heat of the southwest to the brutal winters of the northeast. They have sealed and enclosed cases to keep the elements out. Thus, solar powered spotlights require minimal effort for installation and upkeep. Many models feature automatic dimming or motion sensing characteristics. Many models we reviewed had capabilities of sensing motion up to 50 feet or more away from the installed unit, but this depends on where the lights are installed and what angle capability they possess. A good solar powered spotlight will be able to be adjusted and positioned in a variety of ways and will also have options and modes for brightness or intermittent light exposure. Outdoor Solar spotlights look professional and cost much less than a quote from a landscaper for their wired counterparts. People have reported spending thousands of dollars on entire wired landscape lighting packages, only to discover later that they could have saved money and time if they had just purchased solar powered spotlights and installed them themselves. And you do not have to pay a landscaping company or electrician for upkeep or repairs when an issue arises. An added bonus of using solar powered spotlights is that they can help save you money on electric bills. Many users describe a reasonable decrease in their use and cost of electrical services after installing solar powered spotlights. You no longer have to keep your front or back porch lights on and bother your neighbors with unwanted light coming in their windows all night. For those concerned for the greater good of mankind, these lights also lessen environmental impact by not wasting electricity. They only use what energy they have stored, and many feature an automatic on and off that allows for the lighting fixture to conserve energy when not in use during daylight hours or when intermittent lighting is present. Solar powered spotlights are virtually hassle free. Since these spotlights are wireless, this means no rodents or other animals can wreak havoc on your landscape lighting by chewing the wires - there are none! This also means you do not have to worry about underground wiring when moving objects or replanting in your garden or yard. Here is a good YouTube video that discusses how a set of solar spotlights hold up over time: What are Outdoor Solar Spotlights Used for? Solar spotlights have a variety of applications. They can be enjoyed as an accent to highlight target areas, making them an excellent decorative accent to landscaping features. You can mix warm and cool white lights to add contrast and depth to your landscaping for a dramatic or romantic feel. Use them to light up house numbers for better visibility from the street, or for the main lighting for your yard, garden, driveway, porch, walkway, pool, garage, and patio. Because of their relatively small size and compact design, they really are ideal to place anywhere you want and need light. Outdoor solar spotlights can also provide you and your family with the safety and security of sight in the darkness. Nowadays, porch pirates feel free to come on people's property and steal packages or expensive landscaping features. By using spotlights with a high lumen rating, you can deter thieves and those wishing to do others harm. You can add them to your home for an economical indoor lighting choice. They can easily be installed in closets or areas of your home that receive very little exposure to the sun or daylight. One traveler expressed his opinion that they could be used almost anywhere, as he uses outdoor solar powered spotlights as the main light source for his motorhome or RV for added visibility while camping.

If you are wondering where to hang plants, there's nothing wrong with hanging a basket from a tree branch. Steel S-hooks, which come in a range of sizes, make easy work of hanging baskets in the garden. Be sure the branch is sturdy, because baskets filled with damp soil and plants are very heavy and can easily break a weak branch. No place for outdoor hanging plants? Shepherd's hooks do not take up much space, they are easy to install, and the height is usually adjustable. Some have enough hooks for up to four plants. Will solar lights still shine if they're in a jar covered in crepe paper?as long as the solar panel is not touched, they should work. The solar panel should definitely NOT be covered in any way what so ever. But that is usually at the top of the lights, so feel free to do what you want. as long as there is some translucency to the jar, the light should still shine. As long as you understand the light wo not be as bright going through a semi-transparent surface (the jar) as they would through clear glass you should be fine. Just keep the solar panel free of anything. Not only COULD the glue itself harm the panel, that has to be kept as clean as possible. A little dust is fine, but watch out for pollen etc. See article below on how to care for solar lights, especially in spring when many people take them out after storage, lots of good to freshen up solar lights after storage and general tips on cleaning and taking care of them so that they last. For the record: I do not know what ads you are seeing when you view this, but most of these stores sell crappy solar lights.2. How do I store my solar lights? The most important thing is battery, you should store in dry place and protect the battery3. How Complicated is it to Install Commercial Outdoor Pole Lights?Everywhere you go there are commercial outdoor pole lights. They are so common, so numerous, that you probably do not even realize they are there. Every parking lot, walkway, and park you've ever been to is dotted with tall light poles. But if a pole light is damaged or missing, that's the only time when we notice the difference. After all, for many people, there are few things scarier than a dark corner of a parking lot. There are plenty of reasons why people need commercial outdoor pole lights installed. Whether you are developing a new property or need to renovate an existing one, new pole lights can transform your parking and pedestrian areas. So exactly how complicated is it to install new commercial outdoor pole lights? Here are a few things to consider from Atlanta's outdoor lighting pros. The town or city your property is in has a say about how tall and bright your pole lights can be. If the property falls under the jurisdiction of a homeowner's association, you could have a second layer of restrictions to navigate as well. So before you go buying a bunch of new lights, make sure you understand the limitations placed on your property. Nobody stops to think about the varying conditions pole lights are exposed to around the world. Not every pole light is built to withstand the extreme cold of Minneapolis, the incredible heat of Phoenix, or the frequent earthquakes of Los Angeles. Take the time to do your research and find the outdoor pole lights that are built to tolerate your local conditions. With these pieces of information in place, you can begin to narrow the field of possible pole light purchases. This is the time to start considering the affordability and aesthetic appeal of each of your light pole options. Once you know the brightness and spread of your pole light bulbs, you can do a little math. Sketch your outdoor lighting schematic to figure out how many light poles you need to purchase for your property. Again, your local ordinances and the light manufacturer's information will help you decide where the poles should be placed to provide even, optimal lighting. The next thing to check is the integrity of the pole light installation sites. The concrete or asphalt surrounding the install site should not be crumbling or cracked. You will need to dig an 18-inch deep hole, approximately two feet across, to pour the concrete footing that will support the light pole. (Check your local building codes for accurate specifications in your area.) Once the concrete is poured, the pole should be inserted immediately into the wet concrete. Use a crane to hold the pole straight up until the footing dries. Use levels to make sure the pole is perpendicular to the ground during the drying process. The last thing you want is a crooked 25-foot-tall light pole on your property! Also, this is one step of the installation process when you definitely want a professional's assistance. Wiring the new pole lights is often easier when old pole lights are being replaced. The in-ground wires are already installed. Assuming the existing wiring works, this will save you a lot more excavation and billable hours of work. If the lights are being installed at a new or extremely old development, new wiring should be laid down. Alternatively, you could install solar lights, which do not require any wiring. Make sure the lumens produced by these lights meet your property's requirements and your local ordinances. What Happens When Pole Lights Burn Out? This is inevitable for all light bulbs - well, except perhaps the Centennial Light, which has been burning in Livermore, California since 1901. But your new light poles will definitely require service down the road. When this happens, call an electrical service provider you trust to change out bulbs and perform other routine maintenance. I've heard many various ways from pouring cement to installing security cameras. The cheapest and ideal suggestions that I have received is to do as follows. Drill a hole by way of the base of each and every light. You want the hole to be just beneath ground level. Subsequent string a plastic jacketed steel cable although all of them. Lastly, dig a shallow trench between the lights to location the cable. I've by no means had or heard of any lights being stolen with this strategy.LED TechnologiesOne of the principal concerns that I hear is that solar lights are dimmer than regular lights. This may have been the case years ago but new LED (Led Emmiting Diodes) technology has changed this belief. Depending on the model some solar lights are just as bright as conventional lights. One more thing to consider is the fact that LED's lasts longer than conventional lights since there is certainly no filament in them and they don't waste power by giving off heat. Most of these lights have many LED's and have a reflector inside to give off maximum light which is distributed evenly.LED solar lights are potent sufficient to supply fantastic lighting for your garden.Shopping for Solar Garden LightsIn one way or another, we all desire to save some funds. Except for the really cheap ones from the mart stores. They lasted 3 months.2. What can i do about hispanic neighbour he keeps running over my Outdoor Solar Lights because he keeps cutting?Let me see you told the guy 7 times he has broken solar lights and they say it's racist to ask him to not break your solar lights ? He has been told 6 times now he is at 7 times of being told and apparently he thinks it's ok to break whatever he wants and he continues to break them even after being made aware of it and it's racist to ask him not to destroy your property .After 7 times he is well aware of what he is doing, but elects to switch off the moral considerations by which normal people are bound. He knows what he is doing, he knows he is responsible for his action thus liable for its consequences and damages to your property. I do not how it is racist to ask somebody not to destroy your property ,then again of late hispanics are being told simple normal laws by which others are bound by, did not apply to them and if anybody is saying anything otherwise, whip out the racist card demand that said person apologize for even suggesting a hispanic would do wrong and continue to allow him to destroy your property or your racist and what next will happen will be reprisals will follow. You might wake up with 4 flat tires, you car can get keyed, sugar can be put in the gas tank.

If they are in shade the solar charger wo not be able to charge the batteries.1. how can solar garden light solar lights be rejuvenated ... have tried cleaning the panels with negative result? How To Clean Solar Lights2. 7 Quick Tips For Solar Park LightsIn places where the environment needs to be preserved or parks there is a need for a natural lighting system when illumination is required at night. The use of solar park lights, in this case, eliminates trenching, power cabling, and any other works that may interfere with the soil structure. Solar park lights come designed for areas where the focus is on the aesthetics and the structure of the lights. Their environmental friendly working mechanism allows for use in such places and other recreational areas. At night, you can use Solar park lights to illuminate pathways, the lawn, and benches in a park. They aim to enhance the look of the park. This will ensure that the parks are useful at night by area residents. Here are seven quick tips you can use when designing your light. The aesthetic of solar park lights comes packaged in the design of the lighting and power source. The design is done in such a way that there is minimal hindrance to bird movement and exposure to dust or dirt. Aesthetics can also be achieved by the type of finishing, the perfect match between pole and structure coatings and the environment. Most of the solar park lights come with a decorative design depending on the style that appeals to your needs. Stylish lighting fixtures are available when you wish to add that aesthetic value on your park lights. The height of solar park lights is determined by the area that needs illumination. For instance, if you wish to light up the paths in the park then the height would be shorter than the one to be used to illuminate an entire park. As much as the brightness of the light depends on the height of the pole, you can still achieve the level of illumination you need with any height. This requires some professional calculation that starts with the area that needs to be visible and then choosing the light source while keeping in mind the height to brightness ratio. For the maximum efficiency and savings, solar park lights come with LED fixtures coupled with solar panels. The use of LED and high-pressure sodium lamps have been associated with cost savings in the sense that they produce bright lights without consuming too much power. Calculations are required to avoid light pollution or spill. After calculating the area where you want your solar park lights to illuminate, you will need the assistance of motion sensor technology to control the brightness of the lights depending on the limiting conditions you set. The poles used for solar park lights are usually made of hot-dipped, powder-coated, galvanized steel. The choice of material allows the streetlight to withstand a variety of harsh weather conditions. The use of steel poles in solar park lights allows for reflection of light rays because of its shiny surface. Besides boosting your lighting needs, steel poles are corrosion resistant. The type of pole you use should serve you for a longer time. The fixtures on solar park lights should provide a wide range of lighting intensity and distribution pattern that fits the area you need to illuminate. The height of the poles and the distance between them determines the overall illumination. There is a myriad of fixture styles available for park lighting. In areas that have high temperatures and strong sand winds, the masts are designed with vertical solar panels to limit silting and increase the performance of the solar park lights. Solar park lights should be easy to assemble and install. The components should be easily replaceable to reduce the cost and time of repair and maintenance. Besides, the solar park lights should allow for customization in case you need to change the bulb type, bulb intensity, bulb shade, or pole height. It has been observed that solar park lights with independent solar panels have a lower performance rate compared to all in one or rigid ones. If you are to go with solar lights that use split or separate solar panels, then you should determine the optimum tilt angle when installing installation. Tilting the solar panel makes it a self-cleaning product hence preventing silt and dust from settling on the surface. The rule of thumb when installing solar panels or PV arrays for your solar light is that they should be perpendicular to the sun's rays for maximum energy production. By default, the angle of tilt of your fixed solar panel should be equal to your latitude, plus or minus 15 degrees in winter, or summer respectively. Contemporary solar park lights come with adjustable solar panels that track the movement of the sun. The controllability of the solar panels allows for maximum conversion of solar energy into electricity. In short, adjusting the angle of tilt of your solar panel gives you a boost on energy production and reduces the need for cleaning. Experts in areas with extreme temperature conditions tend to avoid the use of lithium batteries in solar park lights. The reason being, Lithium batteries have poor performance when it comes to high temperatures. In most cases, the lead-acid battery has been an alternative to the lithium-ion battery. As much as performance is determined by the type of battery, it is also essential to consider the Depth of discharge (DoD) when selecting the battery for your solar lights. The DoD determines the lifespan of your battery. The best situation to use solar park lights is when the area of interest is far away from the grid power source. Also, they are suitable when no modification is required on the ground to facilitate the supply of electric power. The best solar park light is the one that is customized to your needs and a natural fit for all weather conditions. Generally, solar park lights should complement the open space.3. what is a good catalog to look at for gifts ideas; like for patio planters, or solar lights or nick knacks?Check out an IKEA catalog or store. Green Living Simple Steps to Having a Greener House
Homes are a place for relaxation. We seek comfort, privacy, warmth and protection from our homes. We like to unwind and relax ourselves after a tiring day at work. Our homes provide us with peace of mind, away from the noise and hustle-bustle of the outside world. For this reason, people want to have all kinds of facilities in their homes. They want their homes to look beautiful and have all the comforts and facilities that technology can bring them. However we must not forget the environment and the impact we have on it due to our lifestyle. We should try to have homes which are environment friendly. Excessive use of technology may provide us with temporary comforts but may adversely impact the environment. I am not against the use of technology in homes. By all means, make best possible use of it, but try to stay away from excesses. For this reason we should try to develop and live in green homes. Green home is a type of house which is environment friendly. This means that green homes do not harm the environment. Green home, eco-friendly, environment friendly or nature-friendly homes all mean the same thing.More and more people are trying to build eco-friendly homes due to rising awareness against pollution and other environmental hazards that modern living is causing. The popularity of green homes is on the rise also because of the fact that green technologies are becoming more and more affordable and accessible to the common man. There are many simple things you can do to make your own home eco-friendly. The most basic thing you can do is to plant more trees. If you have a large ground in your house, make best use of it to plant trees abundantly. What trees would you plant? The answer to this question would depend on a lot of factors like the climate of your place among other things. You may even grow different plants in different seasons. During warm seasons you may go for cucumber or tomato plants as these are warm season vegetables. During the colder months you may go for crops like lettuce, broccoli, carrots etc.Other things you can do to make your house eco-friendly is to install solar lights wherever possible, like in the driveway, garage, patio etc. Solar lights get energy from the sun and thus can help you save on your electricity bills. As you know solar energy is free for all. If you install solar panels in your home and try to generate as much electricity for your home needs as possible from solar energy, you can end up paying far less electricity bills than what you are used to paying now.The initial cost of installing solar panels might be a little high, but the cost is decreasing day by day as we make more progress with utilizing natural resources for our energy needs. You may get incentives, discounts, tax redemption and other facilities from the government if you plan to install solar panels. Try to find out what kind of benefit plans the government in your area is offering for installing solar panels. If you are in Brisbane area, then you may check out this site for Brisbane solar panels installation. If you install solar panel and are able to produce excess power that is more than your personal requirements, you may be able to sell it to a local utility company and thus make some money. In a few years time, a lot of houses around the world may start using solar power for their energy needs. There are other sources of renewable, green energy besides solar power. Windmills to harness wind energy is another alternative but it may not be practical for small or medium sized homes as large space is required to install many windmills in order to generate sufficient amount of power.Green homes are mainly focused on efficient energy usage and less wastage. So you not only have to think about generating energy through natural ways, but also worry about using as less energy as possible without compromising on your necessities. One of the things you can do towards this end is to install lot of windows in strategic locations in your home to let fresh air and natural lighting come inside.Doing so would mean you wo not have to use much artificial lighting in your home as you allow lot of natural light from outside due to the presence of well-planned windows. You may use transparent windows to let more natural light into your house. A smart idea to save more electricity is to install mirror and glasses in your living room and other places so that they reflect or refract light, making the room appear brighter and more spacious.Anyways, no matter how good your windows setup may be, you may need to use artificial lighting at night. It is advisable to use flourescent lights as they prevent the emission of dangerous greenhouse gases. Furthermore, these lights are highly energy-efficient, helping you save money on your power bills.Using recycled water for lawns is another simple thing you can do to minimize wastage of an important natural resource like water. Wherever possible try to re-use and recycle items in order to minimize wastage. Materials like aluminium and iron are limited and their supply may eventually run out. If we want to make these important metals last longer then we should get into the habit of recycling and reusing.Minimize the use of paper as much as you can as lot of wood is needed to produce paper. Even though supply of wood can be replenished, it is not so easy as trees take a long time to grow. Hence paper also needs to be recycled. Take care not to waste even a simple thing as a piece of paper if you truly care about the earth's environment and the lives of people living on this planet! So if you have decided to choose a greener lifestyle, then I applaud your decision. It is a wise and morally sound decision as the environment has been severely contaminated and polluted by human efforts in the last 100 or so years. People are now becoming more and more aware of their responsibility towards the protection of the environment. There are many NGO organizations, and even the government is with you. If all of us can do our small bit, it may hopefully lead to drastic improvements in the near future. Can solar lights be charged from indoor light or has to be sunlight? There is nothing special about solar panels that would make them only accept "sunlight." Naturally, it would be extremely wasteful and somewhat silly even to use an electrical incandescent or florescent electrical light to charge a solar fixture. HOWEVER. If you are in a room that is well lit anyway, it would work. I got a new solar lantern recently and left it in my dining room, which gets lots of sun in the daytime; last night, it lit up. However, you probably would need a lot more light charge than a single LED bulb meant to emit "mood lighting."
How Often Electicity Stops in USA, Statistics?
I live in south Texas and the grids here are so old they can not provide the needed electricity when need is high. The weather here is salty and very hot and it is hard on lines. They need to be replaced often but are not. If it rains. ...if there is wind. ..if it is cold. ..you can count on the electricity going out. It goes out so often that I have bought a gas heater, gas stove and oil lamps. I have solar lights outside that can be brought in for light too. This works well in case of hurricanes too because then the electricity can go out for weeks until there is time enough to repair all the damage. Because of hurricanes here, many people have generators. I unfortunately cannot afford one. When there is a bad hurricane, I will be vacationing far to the north until utilities are repaired and a/cs are running. I have no idea how often it happens but this year I can remember only two or three times...but the weather has been dry and no big storms. Other years it can happen much more than that and sometimes it happens every other day because they change who uses what grids so no one is out for a very long time. Then it can be every so many hours or every so many days. I spent one Christmas with no electricity for five days and it was freezing. I felt bad for my neighbors that had small kids but we had snow on the ground so they were happy. That happens about once in a hundred years. I've rambled but hope it helps1. Best Led solar flood lightsThis presentation will show you why led solar flood lights are the future of your flood lights. What are the main benefits of using solar powered flood lights. Solar flood light advantages over regular floodlights. You can find out what are the best solar flood lights and what types of solar lights are popular. Also here are listed all the best solar powered lights for each category of flood lights.2. 3 Best Solar Flood Lights You Need for 2021Solar flood lights are one of the most invaluable investments you can make for the safety of your home. These lights are convenient and practical additions that will make everything from using a home security cam to unlocking your door at night a little bit easier. They can also help to keep the critters away from your prized tomatoes. A flood light is designed to flood an area with light. It's very straightforward. Flood lights are most important for outdoor applications. Inside, you have your walls, mirrors, and surfaces of your furniture to help bounce light around to fill the space. One bulb can take you a long way in a small room. Outside, you do not have that luxury. It's a vast expanse, and without a well defined space to contain a light, it sort of leaks out everywhere. A normal light outside wo not go very far. Since a flood light is designed to beam a high concentration of light directly out into a wide area, they will do a better job at illuminating a vast expanse. Flood lights are used to illuminate outdoor concerts and sporting events at night. These flood lights are a lot more powerful than the kind you would need to illuminate your home, since your back porch is substantially smaller than a football stadium. Flood lights for home use are compact, easy to use and install, and relatively inexpensive. Boundery's LumiGuard Pro is an ultra-bright 270 degree motion sensing floodlight. It's the perfect one size fits all solution for some security and safe illumination. It easily installs on your front porch or by your back door, giving you enough light to safely enter and exit without tripping over the doormat or trying every key on the ring. The LumiGuard Pro XL was designed with home security in mind. Our biggest and brightest floodlight can be used to illuminate very large areas, making it helpful for homeowners with a lot of property. It's designed to detect motion from up to 25 feet away, neutralizing threats the moment they approach. The Original LumiGuard is a compact and powerful solar floodlight that installs in minutes. It's the perfect replacement for battery powered LED flood lights, providing substantially more life without the hassle and waste of constantly replacing batteries. Why Do I Need a Flood Light? There are a lot of excellent reasons to add a few flood lights to the front and back of your house. You can position them wherever you need them to make your life a little easier at night. After work, you stop off to have dinner with a friend and run some errands. You make a last minute trip to the grocery store so you can meal prep some healthy meals for the upcoming week. Before you know it, you are getting home at 8 PM. The porch light is not on. You now have the troublesome task of figuring out how to get your groceries to the door that you cannot see to unlock. It's a huge pain, and you are kicking yourself for forgetting to leave a light on. A motion activated flood light solves that problem. As you approach the flood light, it will turn on. You can hold your groceries in one hand and unlock the door with the other because it's easy to see what you are doing. Need to run back out to the car to grab that 12 pack of seltzer? The light will kick back on. If you are having people over for a night time gathering, you probably have a well lit gazebo or porch area. But what happens when someone needs to walk to their car or around the house? They are probably unfamiliar with where they are going, and you do not want them to trip and fall. Solar flood lights and Boundery's Solar LED Stair Lights can make it safe for people wandering around in the dark. People with bad intentions do not want to be spotted. If anyone were casing your house to vandalize or burglarize it, they certainly do not want to do so with a bright spotlight shining directly at them. Mischievous teenagers are programmed to run the moment a light kicks on. It will give them the sense that someone saw them, or that someone could easily see them if they noticed the light kicked on and looked out the window. Strategically placing motion sensor lights near security cameras will help them capture clearer footage. If your camera's night vision leaves much to be desired, keep it in its normal mode and back it up with some solar flood lights. If you live in a quiet area or have a small patch of woods behind your home, you probably love the view. What you do not love is the curious deer and raccoons that want to see what kinds of plants are growing on your property. Rabbits are just as interested in finding snacks at dusk as they are at dawn. If you are growing fragrant herbs, fruits, or vegetables in your backyard, put up a solar light. Any curious animals looking to steal a bite will be scared off when the light kicks on. Motion sensor lights work by detecting infrared waves. People, animals, and cars emit heat. This heat energy can be seen by a motion detector light, especially when it's moving. The sensor picks up on the heat signature that passes before it and, in response, turns on the light. Motion sensing lights can sometimes be triggered by things like foliage aggressively blowing in the wind. If this is a dealbreaker for you, just trim the bushes. You can also adjust the placement of your lights to avoid pointing them directly at greenery. Why Are Solar Lights Better Than Electric Lights? Solar lights are better than electric lights for countless reasons. The most obvious reason is that they do not ever cost you anything to run. They use the light from the sun to charge an internal battery. When the sun goes down, solar flood lights know that it's dark and will automatically begin to work. You never have to remember to plug them in, turn them on, or recharge them. Since they do not require an active source of electricity, you can place them anywhere. You do not need to run wires or extension cords or create hazards to power your solar lights. Anyone can install them with simple instructions and basic tools. How Many Solar Flood Lights Do I Need? The amount of solar flood lights you need depends on what you are trying to achieve. You may only want two: one for the front door, and one for the back door. If you tend to take the trash out at night, it may help to strategically place one by the cans. If you are using them for home security, you will want them near every entrance and exit of your home. You might want to place them near your security cameras or, as a precaution, near any areas of your home that get particularly dark at night. If you entertain on your property, you might want to place them in a way that they will illuminate the way to the nearest entrance of your home. It's polite to help people find the bathroom during a bonfire or late night whiskey tasting. Solar flood lights can be affixed to your exterior walls with screws. They have a place for those screws to go in the form of a built-in mount. It's usually as simple as using the right drill with the right bit to prepare the wall and affixing the light.
